In March 2016 David Chapple, Writing Development Manager, SA Writers Centre, will be on the road to deliver a new writing and storytelling project to communities, artists and artsworkers across South Australia. Supported by Arts South Australia’s Community Arts and Cultural Development project fund, David will take our Omnibus project from Ceduna to Port Augusta, via Port Lincoln and stopping at towns along the way.
Omnibus will draw tales from each community, taking them from town to town, using an ancient collaborative storytelling tradition and modern folklore approach that is being rekindled for contemporary South Australians to share their own stories.
Beginning with a single universal story base, each regional community will reshape the story with their own flavour and form through a collaborative writing workshop experience. This will be followed by a free performance of the story, which will then travel with David for a new incarnation in the next town. As the story travels it will evolve to reflect the people it is shared with, making it a live artefact and a mechanism by which communities can write their own experiences and contribute to history making and circulation.
You’ll get to be kept informed along the way through this blog.
