    Carefully, but quickly picking her way through the dense underbrush, she focused on getting out before the sun set, oblivious to the sudden cessation of the chirping and murmuring that had filled the dusk, until the silence thickened, enveloping her right before she heard the pounding of heavy paws and felt the air change as the beast attacked.
